Recap of 1x03 "Eye of the Gorgon - Part One".

OPENING CREDITS

INT. SARAH JANE’S HOUSE -- LIVING ROOM

Two nuns help the Abbess, who has her veil over her face again, walk out of the room.

SISTER HELENA
After 3,000 years, the doorway to your people can be opened again.

Sister Helena follows the two nuns and the Abbess, admiring the Talisman in her hands.

Sarah Jane holds onto Maria’s arms, holding her close to keep her from rushing to her petrified father.

SARAH JANE
And what then? Invasion?

Sister Helena stops and turns to look at Sarah Jane and Maria.

SISTER HELENA
The Gorgons need us to survive, Miss Smith. Opening the portal to their world isn’t opening the door to invasion, but salvation.

MARIA
What have you done to my dad?

SISTER HELENA
Pay heed to the Gorgon’s warning--

Sister Helena turns to the petrified Alan and appears to pick some dust off of his arm.

She turns back to Sarah Jane.

SISTER HELENA
--and don’t interfere.

Sister Helena leaves.

Maria rushes over to the petrified Alan.

MARIA
Dad!

EXT. BANNERMAN ROAD -– SARAH JANE’S HOUSE – DAY

Sister Helena gets into the hearse.

SISTER HELENA
Mother Abbess.

Sister Helena hands the Talisman to the Abbess. The Abbess takes it with a hiss.

Sister Helena shuts the door and they drive off.

INT. SARAH JANE’S HOUSE -- LIVING ROOM

Maria’s hand is up against Alan’s petrified hand. She brings it down and feels his chest, disbelieving.

MARIA
He can’t be. He can’t. I didn’t mean to shout at you, Dad. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.

Sarah Jane pulls Maria away from the petrified Alan.

SARAH JANE
Listen to me, Maria. You are not going to lose it,--

Sarah Jane holds Maria’s hands in hers and turns Maria to look at her.

SARAH JANE
--you are not going to fall apart. Do you understand me? Whatever has happened to your father, there is one thing I’ve learned after all these years, there is always a chance. Do you hear me?

MARIA
Mum was right. I shouldn’t have had anything to do with you.

Sarah Jane pulls back from Maria, stung by her words.

MARIA
It’s all your fault. You and your aliens! I wish I’d never seen that one in your garden! I wish I’d never seen you! Everything was fine ‘til we moved here!

Maria finally starts to cry.

MARIA
Everything was fine!

Sarah Jane hugs Maria as she cries.

SARAH JANE
I know, Maria, I know. But we have to try. We have to try to put things right.

INT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY -- LIBRARY

Clyde pulls on the library doors, trying to get them to open. He gives up after a few tries and turns around.

CLYDE
What’s happening, Luke? Is Sarah Jane really going to give that Gorgon thing the Talisman?

Luke is flipping through a book near a bust of what looks like a Gorgon from the Greek myths.

LUKE
Of course not. If the Gorgon only wanted to go home, then why would Mrs Nelson-Stanley be so scared of the nuns finding it?

Clyde looks around the library as though he’s trying to find a way out as he walks toward Luke.

LUKE
Mum knows that. She’ll find a way of tricking them.

CLYDE
Are you sure of that? I mean, what if she doesn’t?

Luke looks over at Clyde.

LUKE
She’s my mum. She won’t let us down. She’ll get us out of this.

Clyde walks over to a fireplace across from Luke.

CLYDE
All the same, you and me, we should be looking for a way of escaping, not catching up on our reading.

Luke starts pacing as he continues looking through the book.

LUKE
It’s the history of the abbey. Originally it was a private house, built in the 16th century.

CLYDE
Banging.

LUKE
That was during the Reformation, when priests were being hunted.

Clyde goes over to the bust of the Gorgon and touches one of the snakes it has for hair.

He turns back towards Luke.

CLYDE
Look, I can get a history lesson anytime I want, off Mrs Pittman.

Luke seems to be ignoring him.

LUKE
Houses were built with escape rooms and secret passages.

Luke finally closes the book and looks up at Clyde.

LUKE
Houses like this one.

Luke hands the book to Clyde. He goes over to the bust of the Gorgon and turns it.

There’s a loud CLICK and Luke and Clyde turn to see where the sound is coming from.

A tiled panel behind the fireplace moves, revealing a secret passage out of the library.

Luke and Clyde bump fists in triumph.

Luke goes through the passage first. He looks behind him to make sure Clyde is there. Clyde follows, both of them cautious.

INT. SARAH JANE’S HOUSE -- ATTIC

Sarah Jane and Maria stand in front of Mr Smith, waiting for him to tell them about Alan.

MR SMITH
My scan indicates Mr Jackson has undergone massive molecular transmutation.

SARAH JANE
We know that, Mr Smith. He’s been turned to stone.

MR SMITH
Not stone. Not strictly speaking. It’s an organic petrification process.

Maria is confused.

MARIA
Like fossilization?

MR SMITH
It’s comparable.

Maria turns to look at Sarah Jane.

MR SMITH
And to correct you again, Sarah Jane, Mr Jackson hasn’t turned, but is turning.

Maria smiles hopefully.

SARAH JANE
You mean the process isn’t complete?

Maria and Sarah Jane look at each other in excitement.

SARAH JANE
Could it still be reversed?

MR SMITH
Theoretically.

MARIA
Well what does that mean?

MR SMITH
It can be done. The molecular transmutation isn’t yet stable. But I don’t know how to do it.

Maria sighs and turns away in frustration.

She turns back to Mr Smith.

MARIA
Well you’ve got to work it out! You’ve got to save my dad!

MR SMITH
I’m not sure there is sufficient time. My scan suggests molecular stabilization will be complete in approximately 90 minutes.

Sarah Jane walks towards Mr Smith.

SARAH JANE
Oh, there must be something you can do.

MR SMITH
I can only be realistic.

Maria checks her watch.

MR SMITH
And to be candid, things look worse for you all the time.

Maria walks up to Mr Smith.

MARIA
Please, Mr Smith, you’ve got to help us.

MR SMITH
Perhaps if I were more familiar with the Gorgon...

Maria looks away, thinking. She looks back up at Sarah Jane.

MARIA
Bea! She might know something!

SARAH JANE
Well, she might, but, Maria, Bea has Alzheimer’s.

Sarah Jane puts her hand on Maria’s shoulder.

SARAH JANE
Her mind is trapped in the past.

MARIA
Well that doesn’t matter because that’s where she met the Gorgon! We’ve only got ‘til 4:00.

Sarah Jane grabs both of Maria’s shoulders now.

SARAH JANE
Like I said, there’s always a chance. Let’s get going.

Sarah Jane takes Maria’s hand and they rush to the attic door.

INT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY -- SECRET PASSAGE

Luke is crawling through the secret passage. He’s covered in dust and cobwebs. He turns to look behind him.

LUKE
This way.

Luke continues forward, pushing cobwebs out of his way. Clyde follows, looking warily around the passage.

EXT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY – DAY

Luke and Clyde exit the secret passage covered in dust which they try to brush off.

CLYDE
I’m telling you, I’d rather take my chances with the Gorgon than make like a mole through any more tunnels.

Luke and Clyde stop in their tracks, transfixed by something. They’ve even stopped trying to dust themselves off.

CLYDE
Whoa!

People the Abbess has petrified, including Mrs Gribbins, are positioned all around the courtyard. There are dozens of them.

CLYDE
(o.s.)
Why couldn’t they get garden gnomes like everyone else?

LUKE
(o.s.)
It’s killed all these people then put them on show.

LUKE
Like trophies.

CLYDE
Or a warning. And I’m taking it. Let’s get out of here.

Clyde grabs the sleeve of Luke’s jacket and pulls him away.

EXT. LAVENDER LAWNS – DAY

Sarah Jane’s car screeches to a halt in front of Lavender Lawns. Both Sarah Jane and Maria get out.

SARAH JANE
I’ll have to leave you here on your own.

They both shut their doors and Sarah Jane makes her way around the front of the car to Maria.

SARAH JANE
I really wish I could help you, Maria, but I have to find Luke and Clyde.

Sarah Jane and Maria start walking towards Lavender Lawns together.

SARAH JANE
Now, everything Bea knows about the Gorgon is still inside her head. You just have to find a way to unlock it. You were right, I never should have let any of you get involved.

MARIA
I’m sorry about what I said. It’s not your fault. I wanted to see aliens. Who wouldn’t?

Sarah Jane hugs Maria tightly.

SARAH JANE
If there’s a way of saving your dad,--

Sarah Jane pulls back from Maria but continues to hold her arms.

SARAH JANE
--Maria, I know you’re going to do it.

Maria walks towards Lavender Lawns. Sarah Jane watches her for a moment before running back to her car.

EXT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY – DAY

A group of nuns walking in two rows come out of the abbey as the hearse pulls up.

Luke and Clyde rush to the column by the main door and move back a bit, hoping they won’t be seen as they watch. Luke pulls Clyde back slightly, thinking he’s too close to them.

The hearse door opens and Sister Helena steps out, holding the Talisman.

She holds it up for everyone to see.

SISTER HELENA
We have the key.

Clyde turns his head to look back at Luke for a moment. They both look worried.

Sister Helena has both of her arms up in the air in triumph.

SISTER HELENA
Rejoice, sisters, the Gorgons shall be free!

One of the nuns gets out from the other side of the hearse and comes over to help the Abbess.

Sister Helena turns to watch as the two nuns help the Abbess out of the hearse. The Abbess takes a few steps with the help of the nuns. One of them turns and shuts the door.

The Abbess stumbles and lets out a hiss.

Sister Helena rushes to her side to help her.

NUN
Mother Abbess!

Sister Helena takes over for one of the nuns in helping the Abbess inside.

SISTER HELENA
She is weakening. We must open the portal as soon as possible.

The nuns who came out to greet them follow them inside.

Clyde peers around and watches as they go inside.

CLYDE
Right, now, while the coast is clear!

Clyde starts to slowly sneak away from the abbey.

LUKE
I can’t.

Clyde turns to look at Luke.

CLYDE
What are you talking about?

LUKE
I promised Mrs Nelson-Stanley that I wouldn’t let them take the Talisman. I’ve let her down.

Clyde looks between the doors to the abbey and Luke.

CLYDE
When you promised her, did she tell you you’d be going up against a Gorgon and if you kept your word you’d probably end up a garden ornament?

LUKE
Well, no, but-

CLYDE
She wasn’t straight with you, Luke, and this goes way beyond the call of duty.

LUKE
Mum would never have given them the Talisman unless something had happened.

Clyde thinks about it for a moment.

CLYDE
What, you mean... that thing... Sarah Jane and Maria?

LUKE
I just know that I’m not going to let the Gorgon win. But I’m going to need your help.

Clyde stares ahead, resolute.

INT. LAVENDER LAWNS -- BEA’S ROOM

Bea is looking at an old record when there’s a knock at the door.

BEA
Come in.

Maria slowly walks into the room, closing the door behind her.

MARIA
Bea?

Bea turns to look at her, now holding two records, one in each hand.

MARIA
Hello, it’s Maria. Do you remember me?

BEA
Hello, darling.

Bea turns away from Maria and looks at her records.

BEA
You’re a little young, aren’t you?

Maria is confused.

MARIA
Young?

BEA
To be the curator of the Museum of Egyptology.

Bea walks away from Maria, still holding both records.

Maria’s face falls and she checks her watch to see how much time she has left to save her dad.

INT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY -- GREAT HALL

The nuns walk in a circle around the portal, chanting, while Sister Helena stands in front of it holding the Talisman

NUNS
(chanting)
Serve the Gorgon. Serve the Gorgon.

SISTER HELENA
Behold,--

Sister Helena holds up the Talisman for them to see.

The nuns continue to chant ‘serve the Gorgon’ as Sister Helena talks.

SISTER HELENA
--the key to the portal. After 3,000 years, our work here comes to an end,--

The nuns stop walking around the portal but continue to chant ‘serve the Gorgon.’

SISTER HELENA
--and our world is on the threshold of a new age.

Sister Helena bows her head for a moment.

She walks around the portal to the other side.

SISTER HELENA
The Gorgon world is a hundred million light-years away--

Sister Helena puts the Talisman into what is essentially a keyhole on the portal, turning it just right.

The Abbess is now in a wheelchair and a nun wheels her over towards Sister Helena.

SISTER HELENA
--and the angle of ascension must be aligned perfectly.

Sister Helena pulls her hands away. The nuns stop chanting ‘serve the Gorgon’.

The Talisman is perfectly set in the keyhole. It starts to glow.

Sister Helena looks across the portal at one of the other nuns.

NUN
(o.s.)
The trans-dimensional occlusion is forming.

NUN
Alignment is at 20%.

Sister Helena turns to the Abbess and kneels in front of her.

SISTER HELENA
Only an hour before the portal opens and your people shall join you. After all these centuries, the Gorgons shall have their promised land.

The Abbess hisses.

SISTER HELENA
The time grows short. The host is dying.

Sister Helena looks up at the nun who has been pushing the Abbess around in the wheelchair. She starts to stand up.

SISTER HELENA
We need to find a new carrier before the portal opens.

INT. LAVENDER LAWNS -- BEA’S ROOM

Maria walks over to Bea who is putting on a new record.

MARIA
Bea.

Maria places her hand on Bea’s back.

MARIA
Bea, please help me.

The record starts to play and Bea stands back up. Maria takes her arm.

MARIA
You have to tell me about the Gorgon.

Bea starts to dance, waving around her purple scarf and placing it over her mouth.

She stops dancing to talk to Maria.

BEA
Edgar and I danced to this in the palace...

Bea, frustrated that she can’t remember, takes the scarf away from her mouth and starts to shake it.

When she remembers, she turns to look at Maria.

BEA
In the palace of the Sultan of Ishkanbah. Do you know the Sultan?

MARIA
No. I’ve never even heard of... Bea, listen, the Gorgon has turned my dad into stone--

Bea starts dancing again, humming to herself.

MARIA
--and if you don’t help me, I’m never going to get him back. Do you understand?

Bea stops dancing.

BEA
The Sultan was such a fascinating man.

Bea turns to look at Maria.

BEA
He’d seen the yeti, you know.

She turns away from Maria once more, putting her hand up to her mouth as she remembers.

Maria reaches out and puts one hand on Bea’s shoulder and the other around Bea’s wrist.

MARIA
Tell me, tell me about the things you’ve seen. I’ve seen all kinds of things with Sarah Jane.

Bea seems to come out of her reverie. She looks at Maria, her hand on her chest, holding her scarf.

BEA
Who’s Sarah Jane? Do I know her? It’s silly, I know, but I keep forgetting.

MARIA
Sarah Jane has seen loads of aliens and monsters--

Bea smiles.

MARIA
--on Earth, even other planets. She’s had hundreds of adventures, just like you and Edgar did.

Bea’s smile fades and she turns her head away from Maria.

BEA
Edgar.

Maria smiles hopefully at Bea, waiting.

EXT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY – DAY

Sarah Jane runs to the doors of Saint Agnes Abbey, slamming herself against them.

She tries to open them but they’re locked.

Looking around, she starts digging into her purse and pulls out her sonic lipstick. It makes humming noise as she twists it open.

Sarah Jane holds the sonic lipstick out in front of her and it shines its bright red light on the doors.

Thinking the sonic lipstick will have unlocked them, she tries the doors again, but they’re still locked.

She tries the sonic lipstick a second time and then pushes her back up against the door to open it but its won’t budge.

She looks down at the sonic lipstick and silently curses it for not working.

Looking around the abbey grounds, Sarah Jane runs off, hoping to find another way inside to save Luke and Clyde.

INT. LAVENDER LAWNS -- BEA’S ROOM

Maria and Bea are sitting next to each other on Bea’s bed. Maria looks like she’s about to cry.

BEA
If only I could hear his voice again. Just once.

Bea leans into Maria and brushes her shoulder against Maria’s.

BEA
We had adventures once.

Maria smiles sadly at Bea.

BEA
Such adventures.

Bea’s own smile fades away.

BEA
But no one believes me now. No one listens to you when you’re old.

Maria’s smile is gone now too.

MARIA
I believe you, Bea.

Bea doesn’t answer. Maria leans in closer to Bea to see if she’s still there with her, in the present.

MARIA
Bea?

Maria looks up at the clock on Bea’s wall and sadly turns away.

EXT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY – DAY

Sarah Jane runs along a wall, looking around as she goes.

She stops and stands next to a part of the wall that’s protruding out, checking the coast is clear.

She runs a few more steps and then stops. She has an idea.

She reaches up to the top of the wall and starts to climb up.

EXT. BANNERMAN ROAD -- SARAH JANE’S HOUSE – DAY

Chrissie rings Sarah Jane’s doorbell and keeps her finger pressed down on it.

Not waiting for an answer, she looks inside Sarah Jane’s letterbox.

CHRISSIE
Maria? Are you in there? Alan?

She slams the letterbox shut and starts walking around the side of the house.

She opens the door to the back and shuts it behind her before sneaking over to the window.

She peers into the window and sees the petrified Alan. She turns away, stunned. She thinks it’s a statue of Alan.

CHRISSIE
The woman’s obsessed!

INT. SARAH JANE’S HOUSE -- LIVING ROOM

Chrissie climbs into Sarah Jane’s living room through the window and starts walking towards the petrified Alan, her hands on her hips.

CHRISSIE
She really is a bunny boiler, this one. Couldn’t have the real thing, so she’s made herself a statue!

She starts to examine the ‘statue’.

CHRISSIE
I bet you’d be flattered if you knew, wouldn’t you? You didn’t know, did you?

Her voice becomes less joking as she realizes what she’s doing. She tucks her hair behind her ear and folds her arms across her chest.

CHRISSIE
So it’s come to this, has it? Talking to a flaming statue instead of the real thing.

She lets out a slight laugh at the absurdity.

CHRISSIE
Maybe her and me aren’t so different. We both have to make do with what we can. Difference is, she doesn’t know what she’s missing, does she?

Chrissie puts her hand on Alan’s chest for a moment then pulls it away.

CHRISSIE
Still, you’re all right. Anyone can see that. You and Maria get along great. Better off without me around, messing things up. Well, like I said, I can make do, ‘til I mess things up again. Which I will, ‘cause I’m me, aren’t I?

She turns away and starts walking back towards the window to leave.

She turns around again for a moment to take one last look at the ‘statue’.

CHRISSIE
Anyway,--

Chrissie gives a slight wave goodbye.

CHRISSIE
--um, been nice talking to you.

She gives another small wave before climbing back out of the window.

A single tear slides down Alan’s petrified cheek.

INT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY -- GREAT HALL

The Talisman is still glowing in the keyhole.

What looks like swirling green water is rising up inside of the portal.

NUN
Alignment is at 45%.

Sister Helena walks up beside the nun.

SISTER HELENA
Good.

The nun turns to look at Sister Helena.

NUN
But the Mother Abbess?

Sister Helena looks at the nun.

SISTER HELENA
Her strength is failing.

Luke watches from his hiding spot, unnoticed.

SISTER HELENA
(o.s.)
Soon we will select a new host.

SISTER HELENA
Soon the Gorgons and humanity will be one.

Sister Helena looks at the nun and smiles before walking off.

The nun looks back down at the portal.

Luke checks his watch.

INT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY -- BELL TOWER

Clyde is checking his own watch.

CLYDE
All right, Quasimodo, time to do your thing.

He rubs his hands together and walks towards a large rope.

He reaches up and pulls on the rope and a bell starts to ring. He gives the rope a second pull.

INT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY -- GREAT HALL

Sister Helena, having heard the bell, turns and looks around.

SISTER HELENA
What on earth?

Luke watches from his hiding spot.

Sister Helena rushes towards the other nuns.

SISTER HELENA
Find out what’s going on!

Sister Helena and the nuns leave and head for the bell tower.

Luke takes his chance and runs forward.

The Abbess is in her wheelchair and has seen Luke. She surges forward, hissing, trying to stop him.

Luke grabs the Talisman from the keyhole and starts to run out of the hall.

He sees the Abbess in her wheelchair just a few feet away from him and he stops in his tracks.

The Abbess lifts her veil and Luke watches, scared. Blue swirling lights that look like snakes come out of the Abbess’ eyes and mouth and move towards Luke. He runs towards the door and the lights barely miss him as he runs out.

Sister Helena and the nuns have come back.

SISTER HELENA
Stop him!

The nuns rush after Luke as Sister Helena stands there and watches.

INT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY -- STAIRWAY/CORRIDOR

Clyde runs down an old flight of stairs before turning down a long, narrow corridor.

EXT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY – DAY

Clyde runs out of a doorway and lets the door slam shut behind him as he runs down another flight of stairs.

A group of nuns are coming out of another door nearby in single file, chanting once more.

NUNS
(chanting)
Serve the Gorgon. Serve the Gorgon.

Clyde sees Luke climbing over a rail, followed by another group of nuns who are also chanting ‘serve the Gorgon’. Clyde runs towards him.

CLYDE
Have you got it?

Luke holds up his hand and shows Clyde that he does indeed have the Talisman as he continues to run.

LUKE
There’s loads of them!

CLYDE
They’re everywhere!

Luke and Clyde are standing in front of each other now, looking around for a way to escape. The nuns continue to chant ‘serve the Gorgon’.

Sarah Jane runs around a corner and through a doorway. She spots Luke and Clyde and calls to them.

SARAH JANE
Boys! Quick!

She gestures for them to follow her out the doorway she just came through.

SARAH JANE
This way!

Luke and Clyde dash after her, the nuns following them.

They’re just about to go through the doorway when more nuns start to walk through it and towards them.

Sarah Jane, Luke and Clyde look for a way out. Sarah Jane holds onto their arms to keep them near her.

They look around to find they’re surrounded with no way out. They’re trapped as the nuns advance towards them, continuing their chant of ‘serve the Gorgon’.

Sarah Jane puts her arms around Luke’s and Clyde’s shoulders, pulling them to her side. They continue to look for a way out, some way of escape, as the nuns, still chanting ‘serve the Gorgon’, circle them. They stop when they can’t advance any further.

NUNS
(chanting)
Serve the Gorgon. Serve the Gorgon. Serve the Gorgon.

INT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY -- CELLAR

Clyde is looking around as he walks around the cellar. Luke is standing in a corner behind Clyde, examining the wall. Clyde walks towards Sarah Jane who is trying to move some old boxes that are piled high.

CLYDE
I bet your lipstick thing would have had this licked no problem.

Sarah Jane looks over at Clyde.

SARAH JANE
Yeah, well, shame the nuns made me check my bag in at the door.

Sarah Jane gives Clyde’s shoulder a light tap. They share a smile and a slight laugh.

Luke looks over at them from the back of the cellar.

LUKE
I hope Maria’s having better luck with Mrs Nelson-Stanley.

Clyde is trying to get the door open.

CLYDE
We don’t need any Star Trek gadgets. This place is full of secret passages and stuff.

Sarah Jane presses her hands against the wall.

Luke is looking at a lantern near an old canvas bag filled with something.

CLYDE
(o.s.)
Luke read all about it.

Clyde points proudly at Luke before putting his hands in his jeans pockets.

CLYDE
He’s got it all filed in that super brain of his.

Luke looks up at the ceiling.

LUKE
I don’t remember any down here.

SARAH JANE
Yeah, well, all the same, it’s worth trying.

Sarah Jane takes a few steps towards Luke and tries checking areas of the wall for secret passages out of the cellar.

Clyde tries the door again.

LUKE
Mum.

Luke walks over towards Sarah Jane.

SARAH JANE
(o.s.)
Hmm?

LUKE
I think the Gorgon’s dying.

Sarah Jane stops trying the walls for secret passages out of the cellar and turns to look at him.

SARAH JANE
Why?

CLYDE
(o.s.)
We saw her stumble earlier,--

Sarah Jane looks over at Clyde who is still fiddling with the door.

CLYDE
--like she was sick.

LUKE
I heard Sister Helena saying--

Sarah Jane thinks about what she’s hearing.

LUKE
(o.s.)
--they needed to find a new host.

Sarah Jane looks back at Luke.

LUKE
She said when the portal’s open, humanity and the Gorgon will be one.

Sarah Jane looks back over at Clyde, excited.

SARAH JANE
That’s what she meant! At the house when she took the Talisman, Helena said the Gorgons needed us to survive. I don’t think the Abbess is a Gorgon.

CLYDE
What?

Clyde turns his attention back to the door as he hears keys jangling on the other side of it.

Sarah Jane and Luke look up and Clyde walks away from the door just as Sister Helena walks in with two other nuns.

SISTER HELENA
Miss Smith,--

Clyde backs away as Sister Helena walks forward.

SISTER HELENA
--will you come with us?

Luke puts his arm out in front of Sarah Jane but she puts a reassuring hand on his shoulder. She leans in closer to him.

SARAH JANE
I’ll be fine.

SISTER HELENA
Don’t worry, boys. We won’t harm a hair on her head.

Sarah Jane walks over to Sister Helena and the two nuns.

Clyde backs up towards Luke.

Sarah Jane walks out, sneaking a quick glance at Luke and Clyde. The two nuns follow her out. Sister Helena stops to look at the boys for a moment before leaving.

CLYDE
We’ve got to find a way out of here.

Clyde looks at Luke who nods.

The door shuts behind Sister Helena.

INT. LAVENDER LAWNS -- BEA’S ROOM

Maria is leaning forward on Bea’s bed, wringing her hands, while Bea, who is sitting next to her, is staring off into the distance in a daze.

MARIA
Sarah Jane was right, wasn’t she? I thought meeting creatures from other planets was going to be exciting and cool, but she told me, she said it wasn’t anything like that. In the end, it just messes you up, your whole life and the people you love. That’s why Sarah Jane’s always been on her own. That’s why you’re here, isn’t it, Bea?

Maria moves back slightly and looks at Bea for a moment.

MARIA
With no one in the world who really knows you or cares. This is how we all end up, isn’t it?

Bea leans in closer to Maria, putting her hand on Maria’s knee and smiling.

BEA
I had my Edgar.

Bea looks at Maria and Maria looks back at her.

BEA
You’re young, you’ll find yours.

Maria smiles, hopeful. She turns around on the bed to look at Bea.

MARIA
Bea, are you really there?

BEA
Where else would I be?

MARIA
I haven’t got much time. The Gorgon has turned my father into stone.

Bea is horrified.

MARIA
Is there a way to save him?

BEA
Your father?

Bea turns away from Maria.

BEA
Oh, dear. Oh dear, dear, dear. That’s most unpleasant. I should know, it happened to me,--

Bea looks back at Maria again.

BEA
--you know.

Maria is shocked and Bea nods fervently.

MARIA
It turned you into stone?

BEA
The nuns were after the Talisman.

MARIA
But Edgar saved you. He must have. How?

Bea nods again.

BEA
The Talisman, it is the key to the door between this world and theirs, but it’s more. It returned me to flesh and blood.

Maria looks down slightly, feeling like she’s lost hope.

MARIA
The Talisman. The Gorgon’s got it.

BEA
Then you must get it back. Not only for your father, but for every soul on Earth!

Maria nods, knowing she mustn’t give up hope. This is about more than just saving her father.

MARIA
Thank you, Bea.

Maria gets up and starts walking to the door but Bea stops her.

BEA
N-no. Not so fast, young lady. Would you uh... ge- oh, fetch me... my mirror!

Maria, confused, picks up Bea’s mirror and goes to bring it to her.

BEA
No, not for me!

Bea looks horrified that Maria would even think she wanted it for herself.

BEA
What do you think I’m going to do, powder my nose while you take on that monster? It’s for you!

Maria looks down at it, not knowing why she would need a mirror.

MARIA
For me?

Maria looks back up at Bea who turns away, shaking her head in both disappointment and disbelief.

BEA
Whatever do they teach you in school these days?

INT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY -- GREAT HALL

The Talisman is back in its keyhole and it is glowing once more. The Abbess is sitting nearby in her wheelchair.

Two nuns move forward, holding Sarah Jane between them. Sister Helena walks in behind them.

SARAH JANE
What makes you think the Gorgons will still want to invade?

The nuns stop Sarah Jane not far from the portal.

SARAH JANE
Three thousand years is a long time.

Sister Helena stands next to the Abbess.

SISTER HELENA
Not for the Gorgons.

SARAH JANE
Without host bodies to carry them? The Gorgons are parasites, aren’t they, Sister Helena?

SISTER HELENA
Parasite. It’s such an unattractive word.

SARAH JANE
It’s what they are. A life form that lives on another. That depends--

The Abbess hisses.

SARAH JANE
--on another to feed and survive.

SISTER HELENA
The Gorgon gives its host life beyond human years. The Abbess has carried the Gorgon--

Sister Helena lifts up the Abbess’ hand.

SISTER HELENA
--for 200 years. Although there have been many hosts over the generations. And now she grows weak. Her time is coming.

Sister Helena puts the Abbess’ hand back down.

SISTER HELENA
And the Gorgons have chosen a new host to lead it’s domination of Earth.

Sister Helena walks towards Sarah Jane.

The Abbess raises her arm and points her finger at Sarah Jane.

Sarah Jane is frightened and struggles to free herself from the two nuns.

SISTER HELENA
You, Miss Smith.

EXT. LAVENDER LAWNS – DAY

Maria runs out of Lavender Lawns, carrying the mirror Bea gave her. She checks her watch as she runs and comes to a stop as she reads the time. Then, seeing the time, she starts running again.

INT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY -- CELLAR

Clyde is standing on a barrel near stuffed old canvas bags.

Luke looks around and, seeing a bucket, turns it on its side and dumps out its contents. He picks up an old flat trowel.

Clyde jumps down off the barrel and stoops down next to Luke by the bucket. He looks at the trowel, unimpressed.

CLYDE
You’re gonna dig a tunnel?

LUKE
No. I’m gonna make a screwdriver. The old fashioned way.

Smiling, Luke gets up and walks away from Clyde.

INT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY -- GREAT HALL

Sister Helena motions for the nuns to move away from the portal. She walks over to Sarah Jane who is being tied to a wooden beam by a nun.

SISTER HELENA
Not long now, Miss Smith. As the Abbess weakens more, the Gorgon will release its hold on her,--

Sister Helena grabs Sarah Jane’s face.

SISTER HELENA
--and you will become leader of a new race ruling planet Earth.

SARAH JANE
You can do what you want to me, but this planet will never bow down to that--

Sarah Jane turns her head to look at Sister Helena.

SARAH JANE
--thing.

Sister Helena lets go of Sarah Jane’s face who turns her head to watch as Sister Helena walks away.

INT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY -- CELLAR

Luke puts the trowel, which he’s using as a screwdriver, into the screw, which is sticking partially out, that’s keeping the lock on the door.

Clyde, who is standing behind him, sighs impatiently.

Luke turns the trowel and as the screw falls out, the lock falls off the door, clattering to the floor. Luke turns and grins at Clyde who is smiling.

Luke opens the door and Clyde follows him out, leaving the door open behind him.

INT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY -- CORRIDOR

Luke and Clyde hurry down some stone steps into a corridor.

LUKE
We need a plan.

CLYDE
Yeah, sure, when we get a chance, we’ll figure one out.

Clyde moves past Luke and they start running.

CLYDE
Meantime, we need to find Sarah Jane.

INT. SAINT AGNES ABBEY -- GREAT HALL

What looks like swirling green water with a hint of orange and yellow inside of it is rising towards the surface of the portal.

Two nuns are untying Sarah Jane from the beam.

The portal is between Sister Helena and Sarah Jane.

A slight wind is blowing.

SISTER HELENA
The portal is opening. The Gorgons are coming. The new queen must be ready to meet them. Bring the host forward.

The two nuns, having finished untying Sarah Jane, do as Sister Helena says but Sarah Jane starts to struggle against them, trying to get away.

SISTER HELENA
(o.s.)
Don’t struggle, Miss Smith.

SISTER HELENA
Embrace--

Sister Helena clasps her hands together in front of her chest.

SISTER HELENA
--your destiny.

Luke and Clyde peer around a door to watch.

SARAH JANE
The Gorgon is controlling you! It’s controlling all of you! You’ve got to fight it! If you don’t, they’ll destroy all the human race!

SISTER HELENA
No! The Gorgons shall save us. From war. From greed.

Luke and Clyde exchange glances.

SISTER HELENA
We will exist only to serve them.

Sister Helena raises her arms towards the ceiling.

SISTER HELENA
We will be at peace everlasting!

Sister Helena brings her arms down in front of her, pointing them at Sarah Jane.

SISTER HELENA
And you shall be our queen.

Sister Helena nods to the nun standing next to her.

SISTER HELENA
To receive the Gorgon, do not look into its eyes, Miss Smith.

The nun Sister Helena nodded at is walking towards Sarah Jane and the two nuns that are holding her back.

Luke and Clyde continue to watch.

SISTER HELENA
To do so will turn you to stone.

SARAH JANE
I’d rather be a lump of granite than bow down--

A nun, the one Sister Helena nodded to, comes up behind Sarah Jane. Another nun, one of the ones who have been holding Sarah Jane, grabs Sarah Jane’s chin and forces her head down.

SARAH JANE
--to that thing!

The nun who had been standing next to Sister Helena forcefully ties a blindfold around Sarah Jane’s eyes as Sarah Jane continues to struggle.

SISTER HELENA
You don’t have a choice, Miss Smith.

Sister Helena raises her arms towards the ceiling again.

SISTER HELENA
Prepare to serve the Gorgon!

She brings her arms back down to her sides and turns around. Then nuns standing behind her are chanting again and have their own arms raised towards the ceiling.

NUNS
(chanting)
Serve the Gorgon! Serve the Gorgon!

Sarah Jane struggles against the nuns.

The Abbess hisses.

Luke and Clyde watch.

Sister Helena looks down at the Abbess in her wheelchair.

Clyde gives Luke the nod for them to interrupt. Luke runs forward and Clyde runs towards the other side of Sarah Jane.

LUKE
Mum!

Two nuns grab hold of Luke and hold him back while he struggles against them.

SARAH JANE
Luke!

Sister Helena holds her arm out.

SISTER HELENA
Hold them!

A nun grabs Clyde and holds him tight as another nun comes to her aid and grabs hold of him as well.

SISTER HELENA
They can witness--

One of the nuns holding Luke wraps her arm around his neck.

SISTER HELENA
--the transfer and be the new queen’s first prey.

Hearing this, Sarah Jane struggles more against the two nuns who are holding her, one of them having left her to grab Clyde.

SARAH JANE
No! NO!

The Abbess lifts her veil. Blue swirling lights that look like snakes come out of the Abbess’ eyes and mouth, heading straight for Sarah Jane.

Sarah Jane seems to have given up, knowing that the blue swirling lights are headed right toward her even though she can’t see them.

Maria opens the door from the outside and sees the blue swirling lights that petrified her father headed towards Sarah Jane. She rushes over to Sarah Jane. And raises Bea’s mirror between Sarah Jane and the blue swirling lights just in time. The blue swirling lights reflect off of the mirror and bounce off of it, heading straight for the Abbess.

The blue lights surround the Abbess and she reaches her hands up in an attempt to block them a sound like a scream escaping her.
It’s too late, the Abbess has been petrified.

The nuns let go of Luke and step back, looking astonished.

Maria lets her arms drop to her sides, still holding Bea’s mirror. Sarah Jane sighs in relief.

Sister Helena is holding her hands up to her head, her eyes closed. A nun standing behind the petrified Abbess covers her mouth with her hand.

Sister Helena opens her eyes.

Sarah Jane, now free from the nuns, lifts up her blindfold and Maria helps her get it off the rest of the way.

Seeing Maria, Sarah Jane gives her a big hug which Maria reciprocates, laughing, the mirror in her hand.

Luke rushes towards them and grabs his mother’s hand. Seeing him, Sarah Jane hugs both him and Maria.

Clyde watches for a moment before joining in on the group hug. They’re all laughing and smiling.

SISTER HELENA
(o.s.)
Where am I?

SISTER HELENA
What’s going on?

Sister Helena looks around, confused.

She sees the petrified Abbess standing next to her and gasps.

SARAH JANE
You’re free.

Luke, Sarah Jane, Maria and Clyde have separated themselves from their hug and are now standing in a line, their arms around each others’ shoulders.

SARAH JANE
The Gorgon’s lost its control over you.

Sarah Jane reaches over to Clyde and pats the back of his neck in gratitude, not having been able to get at him before.

Sister Helena looks sideways at the petrified Abbess again. She still doesn’t understand what has happened.

Sarah Jane and the three children look at each other happily, thinking that the world is safe again until they start hearing a slight hissing noise.

What had looked like green water inside of the portal earlier is now nearing the top, almost ready to spill over.

Sister Helena gasps and puts her hands over her mouth in horror.

The same blue swirling lights that came out of the Abbess’ mouth and eyes whenever she lifted up her veil are now coming up out of the portal. They are sliding down the sides of it like snakes.

CLYDE
They’re coming through!

SARAH JANE
No!

Maria rushes forward and grabs the Talisman, trying to pry it out of its keyhole.

CLYDE
(o.s.)
Come on, Maria!

Maria manages to get the Talisman and the group laughs again as whatever is in the portal starts to go down before finally fading away.

Sarah Jane laughs and hugs Maria again. Then pulls back. She’s forgotten something--

SARAH JANE
What about your father?

Maria looks at her for a moment.

MARIA
Come on!

Maria rushes out, followed by Luke and Sarah Jane and then Clyde.

Sister Helena looks at the petrified Abbess again before finally taking a few steps back.

INT. SARAH JANE’S HOUSE -- LIVING ROOM

Maria walks towards the petrified Alan and turns to look at Sarah Jane, Luke and Clyde.

MARIA
What if it doesn’t work?

SARAH JANE
If it saved Bea, it’ll save your father.

CLYDE
You’ve only got a couple of minutes.

Maria turns back at the petrified Alan.

She looks down at the Talisman in her hand and then reaches up and puts the Talisman over the petrified Alan’s head.

She moves over to Sarah Jane, Luke and Clyde. Sarah Jane puts her hands on Maria’s arms. They watch and wait.

The Talisman starts to glow.

Luke and Clyde smile.

The Talisman continues to glow and Maria and Sarah Jane smile hopefully.

The green light shimmers and Alan starts to become human again.

Maria turns her head and smiles at Sarah Jane who smiles back at her.

The Talisman is no longer glowing and Alan is fully human again. He collapses onto the floor.

Maria and her friends rush forward and kneel by Alan.

MARIA
Dad!

Luke reaches forward and grabs Alan’s wrist, checking for a pulse. Maria looks at him. He turns and looks at Maria, smiling.

LUKE
He’s alive,--

Maria smiles in relief.

Clyde pats Luke on the back.

LUKE
--he’s just unconscious.

Sarah Jane puts her hand on Maria’s head for a moment.

SARAH JANE
Quickly!

Maria rubs Alan’s right hand which has been up in a wave the entire time he was petrified.

SARAH JANE
We have to get him out of there before he comes round.

Luke and Clyde start to pick Alan up off the floor.

MARIA
Careful!

The four of them lift him up.

EXT. BANNERMAN ROAD -- SARAH JANE’S HOUSE -- GARDEN – DAY

Alan is lying on a bench in roughly the same position he was on Sarah Jane’s living room floor.

He wakes up and looks around, confused.

He sits up quickly and looks around some more.

EXT. BANNERMAN ROAD – DAY

Alan steps out into Sarah Jane’s driveway and walks towards his and Maria’s home, dazed. He rubs his hands over his face.

Chrissie comes out of Alan and Maria’s home and walks toward Alan.

CHRISSIE
Where the heck have you been? I’ve been looking for you. It’s been ages.

ALAN
I must have been overdoing it a bit. I went out looking for Maria, and then I must have sat down in Sarah Jane’s garden and dozed off.

Chrissie follows Alan’s gaze and looks over at Sarah Jane’s house. She sees Maria running towards them.

CHRISSIE
(o.s.)
Ah, another one of the disappearing Jacksons!

ALAN
Maria, I am so sorry--

Alan and Maria and reach out for each other before hugging.

ALAN
--about earlier.

They pull apart and Maria stops him from apologizing any more than he already has.

MARIA
No, Dad, I’m really sorry.

Maria holds Alan’s hands in hers.

MARIA
I shouldn’t have yelled and I shouldn’t have run off like that. It was stupid.

She sighs.

MARIA
I could have lost you forever.

Alan pulls her into another hug.

ALAN
It was only a tiff. You’re never gonna lose me.

He kisses the top of Maria’s hug before they pull apart again.

Chrissie sighs and interrupts them.

CHRISSIE
Do you know what that woman--

Chrissie nods towards Sarah Jane’s house and forces herself in between Alan and Maria as she starts off across the road.

CHRISSIE
--has in her lounge? It’s shocking. Come!

Maria and Alan follow Chrissie who is almost running in her heels in her anxiousness to show them that she’s been right about Sarah Jane all along.

MARIA
What?

CHRISSIE
A statue of Dad.

ALAN
A statue of me? But why?

CHRISSIE
Because she’s a nutter.

MARIA
Mum, there isn’t a statue.

CHRISSIE
(o.s.)
There is!

INT. SARAH JANE’S HOUSE -- LIVING ROOM

Luke and Clyde are sitting on the floor doing their homework, their books open in front of them. Luke looks up at the sound of a door opening.

SARAH JANE
(o.s.)
What um, what exactly--

Chrissie walks into the living room followed by Sarah Jane. She’s looking for the “statue” of Alan.

SARAH JANE
--was it you were looking for, Mrs Jackson?

Maria and Alan walk in behind them.

Sarah Jane looks nervously over at Luke and Clyde who get up off the floor.

Chrissie, not having seen the “statue” even though she knows it was there, turns to Sarah Jane.

CHRISSIE
What have you done with it?

She points to the floor right in front of where she’s standing. Maria and Alan are standing by the door.

CHRISSIE
It was right here. Bold as you like, a statue--

She points over at Alan who has stayed by the door with Maria.

CHRISSIE
--of my Alan.

Maria and Alan look at each other. They both roll their eyes and Alan raises his eyebrows towards the ceiling in disbelief for a moment.

SARAH JANE
Mrs Jackson, I don’t know what...

CHRISSIE
I know what I saw. Where is it?

Chrissie continues to look around the room as though she expects a statue to suddenly come into view when there is clearly no place to hide it.

Sarah Jane shakes her head and walks away from Chrissie.

SARAH JANE
I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Sarah Jane stands in front of Luke and Clyde.

Chrissie stares at her in disbelief.

After a moment, Maria walks over to her mother.

MARIA
Come on, Mum.

Maria wraps her arms around Chrissie.

MARIA
Maybe we should go home, hmm?

Sarah Jane, Luke and Clyde watch not saying a word.

Maria smiles at them and leads Chrissie, who is still eying Sarah Jane suspiciously, away.

Alan thinks it’s all a big joke, not knowing just how close he came to becoming a statue forever.

ALAN
(o.s.)
Pity, really. I think I’d--

ALAN
--look good as one of those Greek statues.

Alan strikes a pose, bringing his right arm up towards his face, his hand curled into a fist, his left arm behind him.

He drops the pose and Maria lets out a nervous laugh, still leading her mother towards the door.

MARIA
Prefer you the way you are.

Alan follows Chrissie out of the living room and towards the front door.

Maria smiles at Sarah Jane and gives her a slight wave before following her parents out.

Sarah Jane waves back as she, Luke and Clyde smile and look as though they’re about to burst into laughter but manage to simply chuckle quietly.

EXT. BANNERMAN ROAD -– THE JACKSON HOUSE – DAY

Alan picks up Chrissie’s suitcase and takes it over to the cab while she and Maria hug and say goodbye.

CHRISSIE
Oh, sorry I couldn’t stay, love, but Ivan was in floods on the phone.

Chrissie and Maria pull apart. Maria smiles at her mother.

MARIA
It’s all right. I understand.

CHRISSIE
I know we’re not under the same roof,--

Chrissie reaches out and straightens Maria’s collar which doesn’t really need fixing.

CHRISSIE
--darling, but I’m always there for you if you need me.

MARIA
And I’ll always be here for you. Okay? Always.

Chrissie lets go of Maria’s collar and hugs her. Maria rubs her mother’s back before Chrissie pulls away again.

CHRISSIE
I wasn’t seeing things, you know.

Chrissie pokes Maria in the shoulder a couple of times.

CHRISSIE
I know what I saw over there.

She bends down slightly to stress her next point as Alan walks over to them.

CHRISSIE
Listen to your mum.

Chrissie straightens up again and gestures over her shoulder at Sarah Jane’s house.

CHRISSIE
Stay away from that Mary Jane. There’s something not right about her.

ALAN
Meter’s running.

Chrissie looks at Alan and then back at Maria. She kisses Maria on the cheek.

She turns to Alan again and grabs his chin, squeezing it for a second in affection before walking away from them.

Maria rolls her eyes at her dad and sighs, a smile on her face.

Alan looks over towards the cab.

Chrissie waves at them through the back windshield and blows them a kiss as the cab drives off.

Maria blows a kiss back to Chrissie.

Alan puts his arm around Maria’s shoulder and she looks up at him. They turn and walk back into their house together, their arms around each other.

INT. SARAH JANE’S HOUSE -- ATTIC

Sarah Jane, holding an alien device in her hands, walks across her attic.

MARIA
(o.s.)
Mum’s back with Ivan,--

Sarah Jane is walking towards Maria who is standing at a small table, a small item in her hands.

MARIA
--so it’s just me and Dad again.

Sarah Jane doesn’t say anything as she stands next to Maria at the table. Maria pauses for a moment before asking her--

MARIA
If the Talisman was the key to the Gorgon’s portal, how could it turn my dad back?

But Sarah Jane isn’t the one who answers.

MR SMITH
All matter has an atomic default.

Maria turns to look at Mr Smith.

MR SMITH
Some alien technology uses this default to turn things on and off.

Sarah Jane looks between Mr Smith and the alien device she’s working on.

MR SMITH
Such technology can reverse cellular distortion.

Maria turns away from Mr Smith, thinking.

MARIA
You mean, it can make things the way they used to be?

MR SMITH
Most fortunately for you.

MARIA
So maybe it could help Bea.

Sarah Jane turns to look at Maria.

SARAH JANE
Oh, Maria, I don’t know. Bea has Alzheimer’s. Besides, she had the Talisman all that time.

Sarah Jane puts the alien device she was working on on a shelf above the table.

MARIA
But Luke said it was hidden in a tin box. And maybe she hasn’t actually touched it all these years.

Sarah Jane keeps looking between Maria and the table.

SARAH JANE
Oh, I don’t know, Maria.

MARIA
But she helped save my dad. If it could change him back from stone... Please, we have to try.

Sarah Jane thinks about it for a moment and then gives in. She smiles at Maria.

EXT. LAVENDER LAWNS – DAY

Sarah Jane’s car drives around the bend to Lavender Lawns.

INT. LAVENDER LAWNS -- BEA’S ROOM

Bea is sitting in a chair, looking out the window as she hums to herself.

Maria walks into the room, the door having been open, holding the mirror to her chest, a smile on her face. Sarah Jane walks up to the door but stays behind, seemingly uncomfortable.

Maria walks over to the table she took the mirror off of earlier and puts it down carefully.

She walks over to Bea and stoops down in front of her at the side of her chair.

MARIA
Hello, Bea.

Bea looks at her but doesn’t say anything. She just keeps humming.

MARIA
It’s Maria.

Maria pauses for a moment then leans in a little bit closer to Bea.

MARIA
I’ve got something that belongs to you.

Bea stops humming and sits up a bit. Maria has gotten her attention.

BEA
Oh, is it my compact? I’m always leaving it lying about.

Sarah Jane is standing a few feet away by the table Maria put the mirror on. She smiles.

BEA
Edgar says I’ll lose my head one of these days.

MARIA
No. It’s something Edgar gave you.

Maria looks down and reaches into her pocket. She takes out the Talisman. She holds it up for Bea to see who is frightened by the sight of it.

BEA
Oh, no, you must put it back where I hid it. You must put it back in case...

Sarah Jane walks forward and puts her hand on the back of Bea’s chair. Bea turns to look at her as Sarah Jane comforts her.

SARAH JANE
It’s all right. It’s all right, Bea. They’re never going to come looking for it again. The Gorgon is dead.

Bea looks over at Maria, stunned.

MARIA
Everything’s going to be all right.

Bea looks back over at Sarah Jane.

BEA
Is it true?

Sarah Jane nods, smiling.

Bea smiles and looks over at Maria again, but this time she’s looking at the Talisman.

Maria places it in Bea’s hand.

BEA
Edgar gave it to me, you know.

Maria smiles.

MARIA
I know.

Bea holds the Talisman in her hands and looks down at it.

BEA
But he’s been gone for so long and I’ve always been scared to wear this.

Sarah Jane, now sitting in a chair next to Bea, looks sadly at her and the Talisman.

BEA
Oh, it’s so beautiful.

Sarah Jane smiles sadly.

BEA
You know, he put this round my neck--

Bea smiles as she remembers.

BEA
--and he kissed me for the first time and told me that he loved me.

Bea raises the Talisman over her head and puts it on, Sarah Jane and Maria looking on. As it falls into place, the Talisman glows a bright green.

Bea smiles down at the Talisman.

It stops glowing.

Maria looks over at Sarah Jane.

Sarah Jane shakes her head at Maria and gives her a small smile.

Bea looks down at the Talisman hanging from around her neck. She looks up as she hears--

EDGAR
(v.o.)
I will always love you, Bea.

She smiles happily, remembering her late husband.

BEA
Oh, Edgar.

Sara Jane smiles at Maria.

Maria looks sadly up at Bea.

Bea, still smiling, looks straight ahead.

BEA
Thank you for bringing him back to me.

EXT. LAVENDER LAWNS - DAY

Sarah Jane and Maria walk out of Lavender Lawns.

SARAH JANE
You shouldn’t be upset.

Maria looks at Sarah Jane as they continue to walk on the gravel.

SARAH JANE
The Talisman didn’t cure Bea, but it did something amazing all the same. It gave her peace.

Maria thinks about it for a moment.

MARIA
She was lucky to have Edgar, wasn’t she?

Sarah Jane looks over at Maria.

SARAH JANE
I suppose she was.

MARIA
Don’t you wish you’d found someone special to share it with?

Sarah Jane wraps her arm around Maria’s shoulders.

SARAH JANE
Oh, I think I have.

She looks at Maria.

SARAH JANE
For the second time.

Maria smiles up at Sarah Jane.

SARAH JANE
Now, let’s get back.

They rush to the car which is only about a foot away.

Sarah Jane looks over the hood of the car at Maria to talk to her.

SARAH JANE
The Viszeran Royal Fleet are passing through the solar system tonight. All 600 ships.

Sarah Jane and Maria open their car doors.

SARAH JANE
Only takes a few seconds, but it is the most magnificent stellar light show this side of the galaxy.

Maria and Sarah Jane get into the car and close their doors. The car starts and drives off around the bend, away from Lavender Lawns and towards home.
